Dorothy Irene Allen, 77, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin formerly of DeKalb, Rockford, and Kirkland, Illinois, died Friday, August 16, 2002 at Holton Manor Nursing Home in Elkhorn. Born April 17, 1925 in Rockford, Illinois the daughter of George Emery Estes, Sr. and Catherine Ellen Cresse. She married Richard Louis Allen on April 4, 1942 in Belvidere, Illinois. She was a machinist and assembler at Cords, Ltd. and several other area factories. Dorothy was active in several activities at the DeKalb Highrise where she organized the Kitchen Band.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary (Wayne) Zimmerman of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; four sons, Raymond (Theresa) Allen of Shabbona, Illinois, Richard Allen of Sycamore, Illinois, Danny Allen of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Larry Allen of Sycamore, Illinois; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four sisters, Clara (Don) Ballenger of Humble, Texas, Margaret Stewart of Aurora, Illinois, Helen Lawrence of Rockford, Illinois, Betty (Jack) Holt of Tellico Plains, Tennessee; four brothers, Andrew (Ella) Estes of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Thomas (Barbara) Estes of Rockford, Illinois, Lloyd (Barbara) Estes of Brodhead, Wisconsin, Charles (Jean) Estes of Winnebago, Illinois; three sisters-in-law, Anna Estes of Stoutland, Missouri, Lois Estes of Rockford, Illinois, and Lucille Estes of Brodhead, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1988, one sister, Judith Hicks; four brothers, George Estes, Jr., Carl Estes, Everett Estes, and Robert Estes.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 20th at Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home, with the Reverend Jeff Coester, officiating. Interment will be in Maple Cemetery in Kirkland. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in care of Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home, 309 S.
