George Howard Allen, 78, of DeKalb, Illinois died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora. He was born January 3, 1926 in Bushnell, Illinois the son of George Kempher Allen and Margaret E. (Hoeft) Allen. He married Nancy J. Harris on February 20, 1954 in the First Congregational Church in DeKalb. He worked for Knodle’s in Sycamore for many years as a TV and Electronics repairman and later owned his own repair service business. George was a member of the United Church of Christ in DeKalb. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the Sycamore VFW. He was an amateur radio operator licensed under the station call of KB9AGV. He was a long-time member of the DeKalb County Amateur Radio Club and was awarded a lifetime membership in the club in April 2003. He was a former Boy Scout Leader of Troop #32 in DeKalb and was the recipient of the Burton Statuette and the Silver Beaver Award.
George is survived by his wife Nancy Allen of DeKalb; a son, Douglas Allen of DeKalb; a daughter, Elizabeth (John) Terdina of Sycamore; two grandsons, Alex and Anthony Terdina of Sycamore; three sisters, Verba Ester, Doris Kendall, and Donna (Ray) Riippi, all of DeKalb; his mother-in-law, Jane Harris of Sycamore and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gale Allen, a niece, Linda Adkins, and his father-in-law, Stanley Harris.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 27th at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home with The Reverend Rita Root officiating. Visitation and remembrance gathering will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday prior to the memorial service. A private interment will be in Malta Cemetery.
