Howard D. Allen, 77, of Rockford, Illinois formerly of Genoa, Illinois and Mountain View, Missouri died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at his home. He was born December 30, 1930 in Texas County, Missouri the son of Oliver and Bonnie Lula (Tune) Allen. He married Katherine E. Thompson on December 20, 1950 in Salem, Arkansas. Howard served in the United States Army from 1947 to 1949. He was a mechanical engineer for Elgiloy in Elgin, Illinois for many years. Howard was a loving father and grandfather, a dedicated hard worker, loved telling stories of the good ole days, and loved his dog, Lula.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine E. Allen of Rockford; children, Douglas D. Allen of Kirkland, Henry O. (Shelly) Allen of Rockford, Dennis M. (Rose) Allen of Belvidere, Katherine E. (Brian) Berner of Baltimore, Maryland, Minnie N. Davis of Cherry Valley, Nancy D. (William) Borges of Thornton, Colorado, Sarah M. Allen of Belvidere, John E. Allen of Hutchinson, Kansas; one brother, Kenneth (Brownie) Allen of Castaic, California; one sister, Lucille Edna Shoup of Mountain View, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Howard Lynn Allen; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonita Elaine (Ronald J. Brown) Allen Brown; two sisters, Edith Swafford and Frances M. Hammer.
A visitation will be held at Cooper-Quiram Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. The funeral and interment service will be held in Mountain View, Missouri.
