Roger William Boyer, 79, of Kirkland, Illinois, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Alden-Alma Nelson Manor in Rockford. Born September 28, 1928, in Marengo, he was the son of John Wesley Boyer and Grace (Thompson) Boyer. He married Berneta Gustafson on June 18, 1949, in Belvidere. He worked at Rockford Screw Products for thirty-four years.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Berneta Boyer of Kirkland; son, Ron Boyer of Kirkland; a sister, Garnet Moore of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
He enjoyed being at home with his family and also repairing and rebuilding bicycles and lawnmowers.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home with Pastor Marie Carlson officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Maple Cemetery in Kirkland. A memorial fund is established in care of Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home.
