Dale Paul Cotton, 88, of Sycamore, Illinois, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, died Saturday, December 22, 2007, at Pine Acres Rehab & Living Center in DeKalb. Born July 9, 1919, in Galesburg, he was the son of Lawrence and Josephine (Guardlabene) Cotton. He married Irene Lagerstrom on February 20, 1943, in Tacoma, Washington. He was a retired tool and die engineer.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Cotton of Sycamore; two daughters, Julie (Dennis) Cutshaw, Jennifer (Fred) Thumm all of Sycamore; a sister, Joan Marie (Clarence) Thurman of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Jillian and Elizabeth Cutshaw of Sycamore, Jamison (Grace Wakefield) Thumm of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Emilee Thumm of Sycamore; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Sam Cotton.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore. He loved jazz music and played drums in area bands. He also enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He built a home and also made furniture. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific area with the army engineers.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 28th at Salem Lutheran Church, 1145 DeKalb Avenue, with Pastor Janet Hunt officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday at the church prior to the funeral service. A memorial fund is established for Salem Lutheran Church in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk Street, Sycamore, IL 60178.
