J. Quentin Dailey, 86, of Sycamore, Illinois, and formerly of rural Kingston, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at O.S.F. Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Born November 11, 1921, in Creston, he was the son of James E. and Hannah (Quitno) Dailey. He married Shirlee Funk on August 17, 1946, in Elgin. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1944 and majored in chemistry and mathematics. He farmed in the rural Kingston area for sixty-five years.
He is survived by his wife, Shirlee Dailey of Sycamore; two daughters, Sue (Steve) Appleby of rural Kingston, Martha (Dennis J.) Collins of DeKalb; six grandchildren, John, Christy, and Will Collins of DeKalb, Kate Appleby of Kingston, Beth (Jeff) Bridger of Genoa, and Sarah Appleby; three great grandchildren, Alyssa Jennings of Kingston, Trace and Lucas Feliciano of Kingston; a sister, Lois Rita Denson of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Franklin Dailey; and a sister Zola Shepard
He was a member of Mayfield Congregational Church. He was a former chairman and member of the DeKalb County Board for twenty-six years. He was a former trustee for Kingston Township from 1966 to 1997. He was a director of Kingston Mutual Insurance Company and was a member of DeKalb County Farm Bureau. He was a member of Sycamore Elks Lodge 1392 and of Marco Island Florida Moose Lodge 1990.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 17th at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home with The Reverend Mary Gay McKinney officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery near Creston.
