Olive Marie Deming, 87, of Sycamore, and formerly of Genoa, went to be with her Lord Thursday, February 14, 2008, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center in DeKalb. Born August 19, 1920, in the Belgian Congo in Africa, she was the daughter of William Erle Shields and Mildred Claudine (Lynch) Shields. She married The Reverend Clair H. Deming on October 18, 1947, in Redwing, Minnesota. She formerly worked as a licensed beautician in Minnesota, and later worked for the Genoa-Kingston School District in the cafeteria. She always served alongside her husband in his ministry in several churches including Castle Rock, Minnesota, Winthrop Harbor, Elgin, Mount Morris, and Genoa.

She is survived by her daughter, Robertta (David) Aldis of Sycamore; her son, Mark (Mary) Deming of Jackson, Michigan; a sister, Helen (Robert) Miller of Eldridge, Iowa; a brother, Robert (Marjorie) Shields of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Matthew (Danielle) Aldis of St. Charles, Benjamin Aldis of Chicago, Jessica Aldis of Sycamore, Andrew and Amy Deming of Jackson, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Ruth Shields.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Genoa and also attended Christ Community Church in DeKalb. She enjoyed music and was an active choir member. She also liked flowers and gardening.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19th at Faith United Methodist Church, 325 S. Stott Street, with The Reverend Daniel F. Diss officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, and on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Genoa Cemetery. A memorial fund is established in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
