Carol M. Driscoll, 101, of Sycamore, Illinois, and formerly of rural South Grove township area, died Sunday, December 30, 2007, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center in DeKalb. Born April 30, 1906 in rural South Grove Township, she was the daughter of Jesse and Edith (Allen) Driscoll. She is survived by a brother, John "Pete" Driscoll of Sycamore; three sisters, Wilma Kellogg, Gladys Zimmerman, Shirley Carter; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven sisters, Gertrude Butzow, Mabel Bailey, Vivian Willett, Virginia Woodward, Ruth Driscoll, Marilyn Day, and Norma Lofgren.
She was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church and formerly assisted the pastors by making visiting calls with them. She graduated from Jacksonville School for the Blind and then Wheaton College with a degree in English literature. She was certified as a proofreader by the library of congress for books written in Braille. She enjoyed music and was an accomplished violinist.
A burial service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 4th in South Grove Cemetery near Kirkland. A remembrance service will be held in Bradt Chapel in Oak Crest at a later time. A memorial fund is established for Sycamore United Methodist Church in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
