Dorothy V. Eckhardt, 83, of Belvidere and formerly of Kirkland, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. She was born December 20, 1924, in Waukegan the daughter of William H. and Ada (Scales) Ainsworth. She married Harold "Barney" Eckhardt on October 17, 1942, in Kirkland. She worked at Greenlee Tool Company in Genoa for seventeen years and Falls Products for several years. She was a member of the Kirkland United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Joyce Eckhardt of DeKalb; son-in-law, Jerry French of DeKalb; three grandchildren, Janelle (Todd) Landon, Julie (Doug) Shaw, Chris (Kara) Eckhardt; six great-grandchildren; one great-great- granddaughter; several nieces and nephews, including Cae Hawkins of Oswego, Donna (Matt) Springer of Capron; Several great nieces and great nephews, including Shauna Springer; and special friend, Stella Harbolt of Belvidere.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Laverne "Vernie" Eckhardt; a daughter, Karolyn French; and seven sisters.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23rd at Kirkland United Methodist Church, 201 S. Fourth St., with Pastor Michael Morrell officiating. Interment will be in Maple Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in care of Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home, 309 S. Fifth St., P.O. Box 337, Kirkland, IL 60146.
