Verna E. Hanson, 78, of Esmond, Illinois, died Monday, July 28, 2008, at Swedish

American Hospital in Rockford. Born June 19, 1930, she was the daughter of Carl A. Wallin and Axelina (Nelson) Wallin. She married Raymond Hanson on November 24, 1956, at the United Methodist Church in Rockford. She formerly worked in the offices of Rockford Standard Furniture.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Hanson of Esmond; a sister-in-law, Jackie Wallin of Jackson, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews, Jean Hausknecht (Kim) Whipple, William Hausknecht, Robert (Nancy) Wallin, David Wallin, Bruce (Lizabeth) Wallin, Deborah Wallin; and many great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wayne Wallin; and five sisters, Mildred Hausknecht, Doris, Gladys, June, and Donna Wallin.

She was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Kirkland and was a former secretary and treasurer for the church. She was a member of the Rebecca Circle of the church. She loved her dogs, and enjoyed knitting and until recently, putting together jigsaw puzzles.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008, at First Lutheran Church in Kirkland, 510 West South Street, with Pastor Carl L. M. Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore.
