Alan D. Haugen, 47, of DeKalb, Illinois, went to be with the Lord Saturday, January 12th, at the Midwest Cancer Center in Zion. He was born March 24, 1960, the son of Gene and Alberta (Fox) Haugen. On May 22, 1988 he married Tamera S. Hamler in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He is a Desert Storm Army Veteran, a former Eagle Scout, and a former Boy Scout Leader. He was a tradesman with a specialty in masonry, and later worked for Ideal Industries. He was a patient and caring man who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. Truly a master craftsman, Al spent countless hours in the studio above his garage creating works of art from wood. With his endless creativity, he made and restored stained glass.
He is survived by his wife, Tami Haugen of DeKalb; two sons, Bryan and Cory Haugen, at home; a sister, Tracy (Greg Muehl) Haugen of Washington D.C.; a nephew, William; his mother and father-in-law, Judy and Jack Merritt of Alpena, Michigan; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law; and his Lab Baxter and Beagle Simone.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two uncles, Clement Scott and Daniel Fox.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19th at the First Baptist Church of Sycamore, 530 W. State Street, with The Reverend Stephen Persson officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. A visitation will be on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home.
