Vernice Beatrice James, 86, of Stillman Valley, Illinois, and formerly of Kirkland, died Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Alden Nelson Debes Subacute Complex in Rockford. Born May 22, 1921, in Avoca, Michigan, she was the daughter of Harold and Blanche (Golding) Oliver. She married Charles James on November 28, 1945, in Arkansas.
Survived by a son, David (LaVonne) James of Rochelle; four daughters, Velma J. Kennedy of Lewiston, Michigan, Sharon (Dwain) Towers of Roseville, Michigan, Florence (Gary) Hoffstead of Kirkland; Jeri Lynn Dicks of Fort Gratiot, Michigan; a sister, Florence Boise of Atlanta, Michigan; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; husband; a son, Charles A. James; a brother, Francis Oliver; and a sister, Goldie Irvine. She attended Stillman Valley Congregational Church.
