Donald Dean Jenkins, 80, of Sycamore, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. Born June 12, 1927, in St. Elmo, he was the son of John and Lizzie (Dively) Jenkins. He married Jane Storment on September 17, 1950, in Salem. He was a retired elementary schoolteacher and principal with the Sycamore School District. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and received a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary (John) Rabideau of Belvidere; his son, Mark (Joyce) Jenkins of Gainesville, Virginia; three grandchildren, Eric and Shannon Rabideau and Grant Jenkins; three sisters, Pauline (Frank) Dotson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Barb (John) Crawford and Iris (Bill) Belden all of St. Elmo; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a half-brother, Wilbur Dively.
He was a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan who also enjoyed fishing and outdoors activities. After retiring he volunteered for the Voluntary Action Center and was a former board member. He also enjoyed returning to Sycamore West School as a volunteer in the school library. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12th at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore. A memorial fund is established in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
