Mary Louise Larson, 86, of South Grove Township in rural Kirkland, Illinois, died early Sunday, June 29, 2008, at her home. Born February 17, 1922, in South Grove Township, she was the daughter of John and Mabel (Anderson) Wenzel. She attended rural grade school in the Kirkland area and graduated from Kirkland High School in 1939. She attended Northern Illinois Teachers College in DeKalb and received a teaching degree in 1941. She taught in three different one-room schools in the Kirkland area.

With the closing of rural schools she journeyed to Denver, Colorado, and worked for Western Airlines. In Denver, she met and married Ruben Myers. The young couple returned to Illinois and began farming. She was tax assessor for South Grove Township for many years. She also worked for Leich Electric in Genoa and was a secretary for the geography department at Northern Illinois University.

She is survived by her husband of twenty-nine years, Olle Larson of rural Kirkland; three sons, Lee (Linda) Myers of Jacksonville, Florida, Jack (Terri) Myers of Kirkland, Dan (Lynn) Myers of Tampa, Florida; two step-sons, Alan Larson of Belvidere, Don Larson of Roy, Utah; her sister, Betty (George) McMahon of Mendota; fourteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Betty Wenzel.

She was a member of St. Catherine of Genoa Church and the DeKalb County Home Extension. She enjoyed traveling. She loved her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 340 S. Stott Street, with The Reverend Timothy Seigel celebrating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday with a wake service beginning at 8 p.m. at Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home. Interment will be in Maple Cemetery in Kirkland.
