Katherine Marie (King) Lawrence, 79, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones on Saturday, February 9, 2008. Born August 16, 1928, in DeKalb, she was the daughter of Charles L. and Martha (Church) King. She married Arthur Lawrence on July 24, 1946. She was formerly employed by Brody Coat Factory and later by Phyto Farms.
She is survived by five daughters, Donna Blanco of DeKalb, Linda (Norman) Aves of Creston, Rita (George) Campuzano of DeKalb, Alice (Vince) Perez of DeKalb, Sandy Lawrence of DeKalb; a son, Clark Lawrence of Aurora; a brother, George King of Sycamore; a sister, Betty Boone of Montgomery; sixteen grandchildren, Tony, Cathi, Melissa, Jonathan, and Jesse Blanco, Rossi and Richard Aves, Jonie, Brett, Craig, and Kami Campuzano, Greg and Dawn Aves, Todd Perez, Ashley Lawrence, Steven Lawrence; numerous great grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter, Emily Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Chuck and Russell King; two sons-in-law, Antonio Blanco and Ronald Aves.
People who knew her called her Grandma. She loved being surrounded by her children and her grandkids and friends. Grandma cherished the time she spent with her loved ones. She enjoyed visiting over coffee, making cookies, getting make-overs with her granddaughter, going out for dinner, or going out to stores. She enjoyed Bingo and was an avid fan of Wheel of Fortune.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 14th, at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Avenue. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday at the church prior to the memorial service. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore.
