Wayne Owen Lucas, 90, of rural Kingston, Illinois, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Maple Crest Care Centre in Belvidere. Born September 19, 1917, in rural Kingston, DeKalb County, Illinois, he was the son of Owen Everett Lucas and Lena Katherine (Haberle-Schandelmeier) Lucas. He attended Schandelmeier School through the eighth grade. He married Dorothy Sophia Hall on January 5, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa. They celebrated sixty-two years of wedded life together. She died on April 12, 2002, at the age of eighty-three. He and his wife were lifelong dairy farmers in the Kingston area and he also worked for several years at Barker Lumber Co. in Genoa.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna (Charles) Peterson; two grandsons, Ronald (Starr) Peterson, Kenneth Peterson; one great-grandson, Timothy Peterson, all of Kingston. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
He was a member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau and the Kirkland Lions Club. He was a licensed airplane pilot and member of the Flying Farmers. He enjoyed playing pinochle and fishing with friends and family. He was an avid gardener until his health began to decline.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2008, at Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home with Pastor Carl L. M. Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery. A memorial fund is established in care of Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home, P. O.
