Helen June Sargent, 89, of Sycamore, Illinois, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center in DeKalb. Born June 17, 1918, in Danvers, she was the daughter of Alonzo Buford Van Meter and Belle (Stubbs) Van Meter. She married Alva "Bud" Sargent on December 13, 1947, in Sycamore. She worked at Anaconda Wire & Cable Co. for fifteen years then as a caterer for thirty-five years specializing in "fancy" sandwiches.
She is survived by her son, Kevin (Karen) Sargent of Sycamore; a grandson, Joshua Sargent of Sycamore; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Lyle, Don, and Paul Van Meter; two sisters, Olin Swedberg, Thelma McCloud.
She was a long-time member of Sycamore United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1st at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Avenue, with The Reverend William Landis officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum. A memorial fund is established in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
