Fred P. Scherer, 94 of Genoa, Illinois, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at Maple Crest Care Centre in Belvidere. He was born December 4, 1913, in Belvidere, the son of Fred and Anna (Schnur) Scherer. He married Margaret Blundy on February 26, 1942, in Genoa. He was a retired area farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Scherer of Genoa; five nieces, Mabel Schultz of West Dundee, Marylyn Payton of Indianapolis, Phyllis Goltermann of Belvidere, Bernice Luxnat of Davis, Doris Trimmer of Wisconsin; three nephews, Robert Scherer of Genoa, Kenneth Holtz and John Doll both of Marengo; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Karl and George Scherer; and two sisters, Clara Doll and Helen Holtz.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Genoa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting antiques, and playing cards. He attended Garden Prairie and Pineger Schools.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 5th, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 33930 N. State Street, with Pastor E. Timothy Frick and Pastor Harold Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the funeral service. A memorial fund is established in care of Cooper-Quiram Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., P. O.
