Patricia J. Sibley, 71, of Sycamore, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Bethany Healthcare & Rehab Center. Born March 17, 1937, in Sycamore, she was the daughter of Donald and Wilma (Ryan) Henigan. She married Fred Sibley on September 30, 1961, in the Sycamore United Methodist Church with The Reverend Wayne Leighty performing the ceremony. She attended Beloit College and graduated from Northern Illinois University with a master’s degree in guidance counseling. She taught at Rochelle, Malta, Mt. Prospect, and began in Sycamore in 1963.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Sibley of Sycamore; two sons, Thomas (Julie) Sibley of Indigo, California, Scott (Michelle) Sibley of Bolingbrook; a sister, Judith (Jim) Cochrane of Malta; a brother, David (Sue) Henigan of Batavia; six grandchildren, Logan Sibley, Nichole Sibley, Hunter Wiersma, Maxwell, Michael, and Benjamin Sibley; a son-in-law, Chad Wiersma of Janesville, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Rose Tarmichael of Wheaton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Suzanne Sibley-Wiersma; two brothers, Dean and David Henigan.
She was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Sycamore High School Class of 1955. She was a former cheerleader and was the Homecoming Queen in 1954. She was a guidance counselor, cheerleader coach and pompon coach for many years at Sycamore High School.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10th at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Persson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. A memorial fund is established for DeKalb County Hospice in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
