L. Kenneth Wenger, 89 of DeKalb, Illinois and formerly of Sycamore died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. He was born May 14, 1919 in Stockton, Illinois the son of William and Margaret (Ortmeier) Wenger. He married Dixie Jayne on March 22, 1941 in Dubuque, Iowa. Ken currently was working at Lowe’s in DeKalb and was the former owner and operator of Holiday Ice Cream Company in Sycamore. He also worked at DeKalb-Ogle Telephone Company and was a Realtor in Harrison, Arkansas and Sycamore. Ken served in the US Army during Word War II. He was a member of the DeKalb Masonic Lodge, Tebala Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite, and a former member of the Sycamore Lions Club.
He is survived by his children, Dennis (Denise) Wenger of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Marcia (Roger) Palmer of DeKalb, Jerel Wenger of Rosendale, New York, Christie (Jonathan) Goell of Silver Spring, Maryland; seven grandchildren, David, Daniel, Darin Wenger, Bradley, Cori Palmer, Gavin, Ciara Wenger; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, William (Joan) Wenger of Rockford; and sister-in-law, Carol Wenger of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2001; and brother, Merle Wenger.
A Masonic service followed by a memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. Janet H. Hunt officiating. A remembrance gathering will begin at 3 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
