Robert Joseph Young, Sr., 80, of Sycamore, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at his home. Born August 2, 1927, in Belvidere, he was the son of Robert E. and Ada (Minnegan) Young. He married Mary Anne Harms on July 7, 1951, in DeKalb. He was a retired vice president of DeKalb Iron and Metal Co. in DeKalb.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Young of Sycamore; a daughter, Teresa Silvius of Sycamore; three sons, Robert J. (Carol Ann) Young, Jr. of Davis, Richard Loren (Barbara) Young of Sycamore, Steven J. (Elizabeth) Young of Chicago; nine grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew Silvius, Robert K. and Claire Young, Shawn and Heather and Richard (Amanda) Young, Grant and Logan Young; a great-granddaughter, Ada Young; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Young; his mother, Ada Young Hallaron; and step-father, James Hallaron.
He was a member of The Church of St. Mary in Sycamore. He was a graduate of Kingston High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He enjoyed being with his family and his friends.
The funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2008, at The Church of St. Mary, 244 Waterman Street in Sycamore, with The Reverend Frank John Timar, M.S.C. celebrating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Sycamore. A memorial fund is established in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
